Life continues – Random Paul Thoughts

I have been very fortunate to have had many good days lately.

The economy sucks, but I am still employed (thank goodness).  The world feels like it is crashing down, but my home is safe and full of love (thank goodness again).

Yesterday little Miles laughed a very clear laugh– he is growing up quickly — almost two and a half months old.

Obama is President, and he appears to be trying very bold things.  The budget that he proposes is targeted directly at the middle class and poor individuals.  Imagine a government that is subserviant to the special interest of the majority — Obama just might bring this.  Let’s pray.

I have been playing with twitter: http://twitter.com/ximz.  It took me a while to figure out how it was useful (I must be getting old at age 25), but I think I can use it.  The more I use it the more I find that it gives me a real time sense of what people are thinking, something that blogs just are too slow to do.  It is amazing that today things that are one day old are very stale.

As ususal I am too connected, and I would love some time on a train away from high speed internet, work, or home.  Mandy: Let’s take a train ride.

I am sick and tired of homophobic Mormons

Chris Buttars is at it again, comparing homosexuals to radical muslims.  Why do the people of West Valley and South Jordan elect this type of person.  Could it be that they support such crazy ideas too?

Last year Chris Buttars refered to a bill in the legislature as a black baby, an “ugly black baby.”  What the hell is up with this?  I thought the church was over institutional racism.  This guy used to be a Bishop in the LDS church?

Now I am sure there are those who would say that an individual member of the LDS Church do not speak for the Church, and in fairness Buttars does not represent an offical position in the LDS Church.  However, I remember this little concept they used to teach me in sunday school: “Every member a Missionary.”  By virtue of Buttars political position, and his known history for offensive statements, he should be much more cognisant of what he says.  If Buttars is a missionary, he is a piss poor one.

Govenor John Huntsman supports civil unions! Finally Utah has a leader who supports rational civil rights. I feel good for voting for him.

Obama impresses

I have been extremely happy to see President Obama in action.  It feels as if we have a leader who is actively engaged in the issues of our country.

Here are a couple examples of things that I have been impressed by:

  1. Active action by the administration to stop Citi Group from purchasing a $50 million dollar jet.
  2. Direct engagement with the Republican party on the stimulus bill.  While the Republicans still voted against the stimulus package, I believe Obama is building a strong foundation with his Republican counterparts.  Very unique for Washington.
  3. Swift action on closing Guantanamo Bay.  A plan still is necessary, but the action item is clear.
  4. Strong foreign policy messages, including a lack of the old cowboy diplomacy of Bush.  It is good to the administration reach out to Islamic nations in a civil way.

I just can’t wait

Only a couple more days until President Obama takes office.  I am so excited for our country to take a new direction.

His election has restored my faith in our country.

I am excited to see the symbolism and ceremony surrounding this historical inauguration.  I am so happy that I can be alive during this time in US history.

I miss college

Starla and I are at the University of Utah. We came here to have her leg checked following her femur break 18 months ago.

I really miss the time in my life when all time was dedicated to learning. Perhaps it is time for grad school :-).
