US to talk with Iran

Wow.  In a very realist move, the United States is suggesting that it is willing to have diplomatic talks with Iran.  The US has not had diplomatic relations with Iran since 1979.  Now Bush’s administration is realizing that they simply have no other options.  We are bogged down in Iraq and our credibility on the world stage is suspect.  While I don’t often agree with Bush, I am happy to see this responsible move.  I hope for our sake that we will be able to talk with Iran.  I fear that because of our actions in the Middle East, such talks may be useless.

New Laptop New Comment

I am transferring all of my settings to a new laptop and I thought I would give my old blog a try.  The new laptop is fully compatible with the blog, as it is a computer than can run an operating system!  I also finally caught up on some of my old e-mail and found a WordPress Comment that stirred my interest.  It seems like someone claiming to be Dell Schanze aka “SuperDell,” posted a comment in an old post.  While this may be a prank, I have a feeling that this was actually a post by the right wing lunatic himself.  My assumption is that a poor and miserable Dell may be spending his extended unemployment searching Technorati for comments about is sorry ass.  I hope you had fun Dell, but we all think you are nuts, and a poor excuse for a business person.

Snow comes in at an all time low.

Today George added a friend from the Fox family to his administration.  Tony Snow will be the new press secretary.  For those of you keeping track, George W. Bush’s approval rating are at an all time low!  32 Percent approval.  Maybe things aren’t going well in Iraq?  Oh yeah, and how much more am I going to pay for gas?

Delay falls!

Tom Delay is gone. If the election were held today the Democrats would re-take the house. The rule of the corrupt, lieing, and immoral Republicans seems to be coming to an end.

Caucus Meeting Update

I went to my caucus meeting last night and I was very surprised by the turnout and enthusiasm.  My house legislative district is District 50, which is primarily compromised of South Jordan.  While, unfortunately, not all precincts within District 50 had members attending, my particular precinct had many attendees.  A South Jordan local, Christian Burridge, will be challenging the infamous Chris Cannon in the third district.  Many members of his neighborhood were at the meeting in support of Burridge’s candidacy.

As always, I was very happy to know that I am not on some political island in my community.  I was happy I attended.

Precinct Caucus Meetings TODAY

Today I plan on attending my local Democratic Precinct Caucus meeting in South Jordan, UT. It appears as if the Republican in my legislative district, Marilyn Newbold, is running unopposed.  That really makes me mad.  If I had two more years under my belt I could run in my district.  Nevertheless, I will go to my meeting and support the local party.

Every election year I get this very good feeling.  I see a good list of good democratic candidates, and I get the feel goods about election time.  And then again and again the people of Utah go to the polls and re-elect the same jerks that continually ruin the state.  Let’s make the difference this year. If BYU students can vote for Democrats, so can you!

The Utah Legislature Begins

With a new year also comes a new legislative session.  This year on Utah’s capital hill we can expect the big Republican “tax cuts!”  Yeaaaah!  Oh and don’t forget, Chris Buttars and friends will completely squander anything gay or secular.  God Bless Utah!

Maryland lawmakers approve Wal-Mart health care bill

CNN – Wal-Mart Health Bill

Sweet! A Democratic legislature in Maryland is now forcing Wal-Mart to spend 8 percent of its revenue on health care. This is a good thing for low income families who are employed by Wal-Mart. It is no secret that a very large health care provider for Wal-Mart employees is Medicaid. This bill will force Wal-Mart to pay it’s fair share of health care costs. This is also good for the middle class in Maryland who will no longer be required to pay (via taxes) health care costs that Wal-Mart refuses to pay to it working poor employees.

Hats off to the Democratic legislature in Maryland. I will lobby our Utah legislature on the same issue.

2006 in South Jordan

2006 will likely mark my first full year in South Jordan. What is a workoholic no good son of a gun like me to do to make 2006 worth the trouble in South Jordan? Well first things first: I have got to fight the politics of this conservative area. My Utah state Senator for South Jordan is none other than Chris Buttars. Chris thinks that Utah government should reflect the values and teachings of his heavenly father. To Buttars I say this: “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.”
